Superior Walls Featured in 25th Anniversary Season of This Old House
New Holland, PA - Superior Walls of America has announced it has supplied the custom foundation for a dramatic custom renovation of a New England home being featured in a series of episodes, which celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Emmy Award-winning television series, "This Old House".
The national broadcast is the centerpiece for the show's 25th Anniversary season. This Old House previously purchased and is renovating a Greek Revival-style farmstead in Carlisle, Massachusetts. The homestead was originally built in 1849.
"We're pleased to be working with Superior Walls for our 25th anniversary project," said executive producer Bruce Irving. "We appreciate their donation of material, engineering, and installation. But even more importantly, we appreciate and respect the way they continue to push the envelope of building technology."
Speaking on behalf of Superior Walls of America, founder and CEO Mel Zimmerman told the television broadcast, "We're proud to provide everything necessary to successfully complete this custom foundation with all the improvements necessary for this historic home. We're happy to play an important role in the 25th Anniversary of This Old House."
The This Old House crew's master carpenter Norm Abram, general contractor Tom Silva, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, landscape contractor Roger Cook, senior design consultant Alexa Hampton, and host Kevin O'Connor began the process of transforming the tired old structure into a modern home of historic depth in April.
The finished home is being renovated to showcase timeless craftsmanship combined with today's best building practices, and tomorrow's technologies. Once completed, the home will be open to the public for a limited time as a designer show house.
In keeping with the mission of This Old House ensuring that excellence in craftsmanship and innovation will be passed on to the next generation of artisans, some proceeds from the sale of the This Old House Carlisle project will endow a new scholarship for the building arts.
This Old House Online began featuring installation of the custom Superior Walls foundation system and renovation through real-time coverage via five webcams in early April.
Live coverage is continuing for the duration of the building project, which is scheduled to conclude in late February 2005. Visitors to This Old HouseOnline can access a time-lapse archive for each camera and see the progress from the beginning of the project. This coverage complements offerings of the project's floor plans, photo galleries, Quicktime VR tours, show descriptions, house resources, and other behind-the-scenes articles. The Carlisle farmstead project is also being chronicled each month in This Old House magazine through April 2005.
Episodes featuring Superior Walls foundation technologies will premiere nationally beginning on PBS Thursday, November 4, 2004 in the first half of The New This Old House Hour at 8pm ET. Viewers may check their local listings or www.thisoldhouse.com for dates and times in their area.
